General Notes

Each week the students are required to be active on the discussion board. Each week there will be a note reminding the students to write a post on the discussion board. There are two sections of weekly questions and general discussions. As the teacher you will also be required to be active on the discussion board each week, posting how you are feeling, the students' participation and general comments. The teacher will also need to keep an eye on the content being posted to make sure it is appropriate. Each week the students will also need to email a weekly reflection. A template will be provided and as the teacher, you will need to make sure this gets sent out each week. The teacher will have a list with the students' names on it and will need to tick once you have received the reflection. If a student has not sent through the reflection please get in contact with them to find out their reason for not completing.

Week One

This week we focus on developing the child's ability to use different platforms of technology to complete tasks. We will start with a "get to know me" activity so each child can add something unique about themselves (this could be as simple as their hair colour, eye colour, where they are from etc). We then will watch a youtube video of the read-aloud of our book for this unit "We're going on a bear hunt". Lastly, we will get the children to scan another QR code, and use padlet again to answer a set of questions about the youtube video that they watch. Students will complete these tasks individually but will be able to see other students responses.

Week Two

This week we look at the multi-disciplinary elements surrounding our book "We're going on a bear hunt". We look at the mathematics topic of coordinates and invite the children to play a game as part of a warm up. Not only is this a fun game, but it gets the children use to using their arrow keys and identifying the correct "up, down, left, right". Their second task is using a site called 'nearpod' to develop a story map of the book. The Nearpod session duration should be 25-30 minutes long. During the discussion section students are to discuss their thoughts about the book. Lastly, as a fun activity, we ask the students to download the iPhone or iPad app "bee-bots" this app helps children to code their bee-bot to reach different places. It involves students understanding up, down, left and rights arrows. This game comes as a competition for children to see how many levels they can accomplish in 10 minutes. These activities are both individual and collaborative.

Week Three

In week 3 we ask the children to scan a QR code to a padlet site from week 1. Children should be able to identify the nouns within this padlet (some reminders may need to be made about what a noun is). Next, they will use a voice recording website 'vocaroo' to record themselves saying these nouns and their meanings. This activity is important as it will be used as formative assessment, to check in that the children understand how to correctly identify a noun, pronounce it and understand its meaning. They will be asked to then send their voice recording via QR code to Miss H in email (there is a video how to do this in the 'how to' tab). Lastly, children will be creating a wall story either online or in person. They will then upload their finished photo to the class google doc.

Week 4

In week 4 the students will re-write what the family finds in the cave. We will encourage students to use their location to guide what is found in the cave, however, it is not a requirement. I have attached two videos of what the quiz and exit slip will look like as the links provided are fake due to assignment purposes. The purpose of this week is to bring all the digital tools that the students have used and to refine their skills before moving onto the next unit. The students will complete this week individually
